Final Event

ICMA amobilife Final Event, Genk, 13-14th March, 2012

How can we achieve a perfect journey? Improving service quality and efficiency are obvious solutions, but these criteria only tackle part of the problem. The question poses a more complex challenge: how to perfect journeys for different target groups, with different and changing needs, and with an effectively integrated infrastructure.

For three years, the ICMA amobilife partnership has been dedicated to the development and testing of transnational solutions which improve, facilitate and provide demand-responsive and target-group oriented mobility offers, in order to ensure seamless door-to-door transport. A clear focus has been on the "first and last miles" solutions which are so important to many citizens, helping to determine modal choice or, in some cases, whether the journey can actually be made.

After three years of transnational cooperation the ICMA amobilife partnership will meet for its Final Event on 14th March 2012 in Genk, Belgium. ICMA partners will take the opportunity to synthesize project results, showing how the ICMA amobilife solutions have contributed to pursuing perfect journeys and how these  solutions can be adapted to other North West European cities. Thus the Final Event is hoping to attract transport and mobility operators and providers, mobility managers, intelligent transport experts, decision makers in the field of public transport and local mobility and other transport stakeholders.

Furthermore, as an integral part of this conference the ICMA project will be hosting the Round Table Event on "Seamless Door-to-Door Journeys for an Ageing Population". This event will take place on Tuesday, 13th March, in the afternoon and early evening , and is being organized as a contribution to the Interreg IVb funded SYNAPTIC mobility cluster project, which the ICMA project is also part of.

We are pleased to invite you to this unique conference. Registration and further information about the ICMA amobilife Final Event "Pursuing Perfect Journeys" are to be found on this site.

Venue - C Mine

As many industrialized regions in Western Europe, Genk has been suffering from the structural transition since the 1960s. However, approaches had been found to tackle this challenge. How such approaches work in practice may be experienced at the C-Mine, a former coal mine that has been transformed into a modern multi-functional conference center. With its impressive appereance C-Mine does not only symbolize the transition that the Province of Limburg has been experiencing due the decline of the mining industries, but also the key challenge of European regional development: adapting existing structures to new challenges. Thus the C-Mine represents the perfect venue for the ICMA amobilife Final Event "Pursuing Perfect Journeys". Find out more about C-Mine.
