ICMA and the University of Manchester are jointly contributing to the TRANSED 2010 Conference in Hong Kong on 2-4 June 2010.
TRANSED is an international conference held every three years and is a milestome in the field of accessible transportation, attracting researchers, policy makers, transport operators, consumers and other specialists worldwide to share innovations and best practices in order to make transportation and mobility acccessible to everyone.
This years event is hosted by the Hongkong Society for Rehabilitation (HKSR), a non-profit organisation that is committed to providing comprehensive rehabilitative support to people with disabilities, chronic illness, senior citizens and their families. The conference is also co-sponsored by the U.S. Transportation Research Board.
The conference theme is Sustainable Transport and Travel for All, with sub-themes that include:
Affordability and Accessibilit
Environmental Concerns and New Technological Development in Accessible Transport
Accessibility Concerns and Solutions for those with Cognitive and Sensory Impairment
Accessible Tourism
The ICMA Project is central element of a joint paper, which looks at sustaining the independent mobikity of older people by managing the transition from car dependency to the more confident use of public transport. ICMA actions relating to the use of IT, to skills development, and to improving connections feature acase study within the paper.
Stuart Murray, Greater MAnchester PAssenger Transport Executive and the ICMA Project Lead Partner, and David Ling, University of Manchester, will be presenting teh paper on Thursday 3rd June.
